Vista City Council seeks community feedback on three proposed logo designs as redesign process advances

Public input period opens after council discussion
The City of Vista has launched a public feedback effort on a potential redesign of its city logo, inviting residents to review three proposed options, cast an advisory vote, and submit written comments.
The outreach follows action taken at the Vista City Council meeting on Jan. 13, 2026, when councilmembers directed city staff to gather community input as part of ongoing consideration of a broader logo and branding update.
Why Vista is revisiting its visual identity
City leaders are weighing whether Vista’s visual identity should be refreshed to better match how the city has changed since the current logo was last updated in 2004. The current mark has been in use for more than two decades.
As framed by the city’s background materials presented to the council in 2025, the rationale for exploring an update includes improving how the logo performs across digital and print uses, and aligning a citywide brand mark with Vista’s evolving character, values, and long-term aspirations.
What residents are being asked to do
Residents can participate through an online survey that presents three logo concepts and requests two forms of input: a preferred option and written feedback. The vote is advisory and is intended to inform the council’s decision-making rather than serve as a binding selection.
- Review three proposed logo options
- Cast an advisory vote for a preferred concept
- Submit written comments on strengths, concerns, and suggested changes
The city has noted that the colors shown in the concepts are not necessarily final and may change before any decision is adopted.
How the concepts were developed
The city’s current review phase follows a multi-step process that began with a 2024 request for proposals for logo and brand mark design services. Three proposals were submitted and evaluated by a committee made up of city staff from multiple departments.
The selected designer is Vista-based and has professional experience that includes work for national brands. City staff later presented the council with background on the potential logo update in October 2025. After that discussion, councilmembers requested additional design alternatives, and the concepts continued to be refined through late 2025, including individual meetings between staff and councilmembers in November and December.
Timeline and next steps
The public survey is scheduled to close in mid-March 2026. City staff plan to compile the results and present a summary of the advisory vote and public comments to the Vista City Council on April 14, 2026, when the council is expected to discuss the proposed logo redesign and associated branding package.
The city has framed the current stage as an input-gathering step, with public feedback intended to help inform a final council decision.
