Incident began with a reported restraining-order violation
A multi-hour SWAT standoff in Spring Valley ended with an arrest after deputies responded to a reported court-order violation in a residential area, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.
The incident started on Monday, December 22, 2025, shortly after 6:00 a.m., when deputies from the Rancho San Diego Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to the 1600 block of Canyon Road. Deputies were called to the location for a reported restraining-order violation involving a person inside a home, authorities said.
Evacuations and specialized teams deployed
After arriving, deputies identified the suspect as Alvaro Hernandez (born June 22, 2000) and determined he was inside the residence in violation of an active protective order. Witnesses reported that Hernandez was armed with a firearm, prompting law enforcement to treat the situation as a high-risk response.
Authorities said evacuations were conducted for the home and nearby residences as a precaution while deputies established control of the area.
The Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail (SED/SWAT) and the Sheriff’s Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the scene. The standoff continued through the morning as deputies worked to take the suspect into custody without further escalation.
Suspect taken into custody; firearm recovered
Just after 12:00 p.m., Hernandez was taken into custody without incident, the Sheriff’s Department said. Deputies reported that a loaded .40-caliber firearm was located at the scene.

Hernandez was booked into the San Diego Central Jail on multiple allegations, including:
- Violation of a protective order
- Felon in possession of a loaded firearm
- Felon in possession of ammunition
- Violation of parole
