Local Government Sessions Focus on Public Safety and Infrastructure

Today, Tuesday, February 10, 2026, San Diego’s primary governing bodies are convening for a series of legislative sessions and committee hearings. Both the San Diego County Board of Supervisors and the San Diego City Council have scheduled meetings to address public safety regulations, contract approvals, and community recognitions.

County Board of Supervisors Addresses Fire Codes and Public Defender Contracts

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors began its General Legislative Session this morning at 9:00 a.m. at the County Administration Center. A primary focus of the session is the formal adoption of ordinances ratifying the 2026 Consolidated Fire Code. This update is critical for aligning local fire safety standards with the latest state and wildland-urban interface requirements. The board is also set to vote on a 2026 Wildland-Urban Interface Code as part of a multi-year strategy to enhance regional fire protection.

Other key items on the supervisors' agenda include:

  • Public Defender Contract: A request to authorize an A-87 exemption to competitive procurement to approve a contract with Partners for Justice, aimed at expanding support services within the Public Defender’s office.
  • Transportation Regulations: The second reading and anticipated adoption of an ordinance regarding license requirements for for-hire vehicle drivers and taxicabs.
  • Community Appointments: Consideration of new members for the San Diego County Child Care and Development Planning Council.

City Council and Housing Authority Convene

At City Hall, the San Diego City Council is holding sessions at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The morning session includes several ceremonial proclamations, including the official recognition of Black History Month and National Engineers Week in the City of San Diego. These proclamations serve as a prelude to more intensive policy discussions scheduled for the remainder of the month.

The afternoon session at 2:00 p.m. is scheduled to include a meeting of the Housing Authority. While the council recently addressed contentious issues regarding paid parking in local parks, today’s sessions are expected to focus on administrative updates and the continuation of public testimony on municipal services. Residents can participate in these meetings in person at the City Administration Building or through the city’s digital broadcast channels.
