Public Notice: Major Transit Suspensions and January Health Advisories

Official City and Regional Service Notices
As of Sunday, January 25, 2026, the following official notices and service advisories are active for the City of San Diego. Residents and visitors are encouraged to review these changes to public transit, health guidelines, and upcoming legislative sessions.
Major Coastal Rail Suspension
The North County Transit District (NCTD) has issued a mandatory service suspension for all coastal rail lines between San Diego and Oceanside for the weekend of January 24–25. This closure is required to facilitate critical infrastructure projects, including the Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization Phase 5 and double-track work at Batiquitos Lagoon. Regular service is scheduled to resume on the morning of Monday, January 26. While passenger trains are not running, residents near the rail corridor should remain alert for construction equipment and test vehicles active on the tracks throughout the day.
MTS and NCTD Service Updates
Effective today, Sunday, January 25, 2026, new service schedules have officially gone into effect for several Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) bus and trolley routes. These biannual adjustments are designed to improve reliability and frequency across the network. Additionally, commuters are reminded that crews are performing ongoing overnight track maintenance in the Downtown area. While this work does not impact daytime Trolley operations, residents may notice increased noise between the hours of 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. six nights a week through the end of the month.
Public Health Advisory: Childhood Immunizations
San Diego County Public Health Services has issued a formal advisory reaffirming its alignment with the West Coast Health Alliance and the American Academy of Pediatrics regarding childhood immunization schedules. This local guidance comes in response to recent federal changes that reduced the number of routinely recommended vaccines. The County continues to recommend the full 17-vaccine schedule to protect against diseases such as hepatitis A, influenza, and rotavirus, emphasizing that these vaccines remain essential for community health and school compliance within the state of California.
Upcoming City Council Agenda
The San Diego City Council will convene for its next regular session on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 10 a.m. Key items on the public agenda include:
- Commission on Police Practices: The Council will vote on the appointment of Roger Smith as the Executive Director.
