City and County Public Meetings

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to hold a regular meeting of the Redevelopment Successor Agency today, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, beginning at 9:00 a.m. This session is part of the Land Use Legislative Session and will be held in Room 310 of the County Administration Center. Public testimony is encouraged, and residents may participate in person or virtually through the County’s online comment portal.

In addition to County proceedings, the City of San Diego has scheduled the following committee meetings for the day:

  • Rules Committee: Convening at 9:00 a.m. to discuss legislative priorities and city governance.
  • Development Services Department (DSD) Technical Advisory Committee: A virtual ad hoc meeting starting at 2:00 p.m. focused on improving the development review process and processing times.
  • Community and Neighborhood Services Committee: An adjourned session scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

Health and Safety Advisories

Public health officials have maintained a high alert status following a statewide advisory issued by the California Department of Public Health. The region is currently experiencing a spike in influenza cases, specifically the H3N2 subclade K strain. Health authorities recommend that residents stay up to date with vaccinations and seek immediate testing if symptoms occur, as hospital admissions have seen a notable increase throughout January.

In environmental health updates, the County recently confirmed the first local detection of hantavirus for the 2026 season. Additionally, the One Health Epidemiology Program is monitoring a New World Screwworm outbreak in nearby Northern Mexico. Residents are advised to maintain biosecurity measures for livestock and report any suspicious animal health conditions to the Department of Environmental Health and Quality.

Infrastructure and Transportation Alerts

The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is continuing essential track maintenance in the downtown corridor. While Trolley service remains fully operational, residents and business owners in the immediate vicinity should expect significant noise during overnight hours, specifically between 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. Riders are also reminded that new service changes for various bus and Trolley routes went into effect on January 25, 2026; updated timetables are available via the MTS website.

Minor traffic delays may occur in unincorporated areas of the county due to ongoing utility work. SDG&E crews are currently performing pole replacements near Oak Drive and Lake Morena Drive, which may require temporary traffic controls throughout the day.
