Official Bulletin: San Diego Budget Priorities, Health Alerts, and Safety Notices

2026-27 Fiscal Year Budget: Call for Resident Input
Mayor Todd Gloria has officially launched a citywide digital survey to gather public feedback for the shaping of San Diego’s 2026-27 fiscal year budget. This initiative follows the confirmation of a nearly $7 million midyear deficit and a projected $120 million shortfall for the upcoming year. The Mayor is calling on all residents to help determine which city programs should be prioritized and which may need to be reduced to maintain a balanced budget. The five-minute survey is available in both English and Spanish and will remain open until the beginning of May. Residents who do not have access to a computer at home are encouraged to visit any city library branch to participate. Additionally, the public is invited to attend the City Council budget meeting scheduled for March 10 at 6:00 p.m. at the City Administration Building downtown.
Public Health Advisory: Medical Shortages and Measles Precautions
The County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) has issued two critical health updates active as of February 27, 2026:
- Bicillin L-A Supply Shortage: A new health advisory (Update #5) has been released regarding the ongoing shortage of Bicillin® L-A (penicillin G benzathine injectable suspension). Local healthcare providers are instructed to conserve current supplies and prioritize treatment for pregnant individuals and infants to prevent congenital syphilis.
- Measles Activity Increase: Health officials continue to monitor increasing measles activity across California, with 19 confirmed cases reported this month. Residents are urged to review their immunization records, especially if they have recently visited major travel hubs or theme parks. Symptoms such as high fever and a distinctive red rash should be reported to a physician immediately to prevent community spread.
Weather Alert: Santa Ana Winds and Coastal Safety
A Weather Impact Alert is currently in effect for the San Diego region as Santa Ana winds return to the area. Meteorologists expect wind gusts of 50 mph or higher to persist through Sunday. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor furniture, avoid outdoor burning, and remain cautious of downed power lines or tree branches. Furthermore, the Department of Environmental Health and Quality has maintained a general rain advisory for all coastal waters from San Onofre State Beach south to Border Field State Park. Due to recent urban runoff, bacteria levels are significantly elevated. The public is advised to avoid swimming, surfing, and diving for at least 72 hours following the last rain event, particularly near storm drains and lagoon outlets.
Infrastructure and Public Service Updates
Following the conclusion of the San Diego Unified School District teacher strike on February 26, campuses are currently evaluating the restoration of full services, particularly for special education programs. Families are requested to monitor official district portals for updates regarding staffing and student support. In city infrastructure news, the City Council has officially authorized the dedication of land for the Fenton Parkway Bridge in Mission Valley. This 450-foot project is designed to provide essential vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian connections across the San Diego River, aligning with the city's long-term mobility and transit goals.
