Arrest announced in long-running Oceanside homicide case

A woman accused of killing an Oceanside resident in late 2022 has been arrested in Tijuana and transferred to U.S. custody at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, authorities said Thursday, marking a major development in a case that has remained active for more than three years.

The suspect was identified as Aarin “Angel” Sorenson, 50. She had been sought in connection with the death of 37-year-old Jacob Sanders, whose body was found in an Oceanside riverbed along State Route 76 on Dec. 26, 2022.

What is known about the 2022 killing

Investigators previously said Sanders was killed in the riverbed area around Benet Road and State Route 76 in Oceanside. Public notices issued during the investigation described Sorenson as transient and as someone who had frequented both Oceanside and Tijuana. Authorities also said she was known to use multiple last names, including Perez, Rincon and Wujick.

At the time investigators sought public assistance locating Sorenson in 2024, officials said she had been identified during the homicide investigation as being involved in Sanders’ death.

Cross-border capture and transfer to the United States

Authorities said Sorenson was arrested in Tijuana and then transferred by Mexican authorities to U.S. Marshals personnel at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. The arrest was attributed to investigative work involving multiple agencies, including Oceanside Police, Escondido Police, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

San Ysidro is the primary land border crossing between San Diego and Tijuana and is one of the busiest ports of entry in the region, frequently used in cross-border law enforcement transfers when fugitives are located in Mexico.

Next steps in court

Sorenson was scheduled to appear in court Friday in Vista, according to authorities. Details about specific charges, the circumstances of the arrest in Mexico, and whether extradition proceedings were required were not released in the initial announcements.

Criminal charges are allegations. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
