Morning Commute Overview

San Diego commuters should prepare for a mix of scheduled maintenance and recurring local events today, Thursday, February 12, 2026. While major arteries are currently flowing without major incident, specific connector closures and public transit modifications will affect those traveling through East County and the North Park area later today.

Highway and Connector Alerts

Caltrans has reported ongoing construction affecting the interchange in East County. Motorists should be aware of the following:

  • SR-125 Connector: The eastbound connector to southbound SR-125 is scheduled for nightly closures from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. This work is expected to continue through Friday, February 13. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes during these late-night hours.
  • Wind Advisory: A high wind advisory remains in effect for the Alpine area and East County highlands. High-profile vehicles should exercise caution when traveling along Interstate 8.
  • San Ysidro Construction: Ongoing safety and security improvements near the San Ysidro Land Port of Entry continue to cause intermittent lane reductions on southbound I-5 and I-805. Commuters heading to the border should allow for an additional 15-20 minutes of travel time.

Public Transit & MTS Updates

The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) has several active alerts for Thursday travelers:

  • Route 8 Bus Stop Closure: Starting today, February 12, the southbound Route 8 bus stop at Mission Blvd & San Juan Pl will be closed for construction. This closure is expected to remain in place through February 17. Passengers should use the nearby stop at Mission Blvd & El Carmel.
  • North Park Farmers Market: Due to the weekly farmers market, North Park Way will be closed between 30th Street and Granada Avenue. Route 6 will be on detour today from 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. No specific bus stops are expected to be missed, but minor delays may occur.
  • Station Accessibility: Elevators at the Grossmont Trolley Station remain out of service today. Riders requiring assistance should use Bus Route 852 or the provided replacement shuttle to access the upper levels. Additionally, escalators at the SDSU Station are currently unavailable; please use the ramps or elevators.

Local Roadworks

In South County, construction crews are active on Enrico Fermi Drive from Otay Mesa Road to Lone Star Road. Expect traffic control measures and potential delays between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. due to ongoing storm drain and utility installation. Residents in the Fallbrook area should also note that Cougar Pass Road is slated for upcoming utility work, though major through-traffic remains open today.
