Morning outages spread across several North County communities

Thousands of San Diego Gas & Electric customers across North County lost electricity during a cluster of outages that began early Wednesday, February 11, 2026, affecting both coastal and inland areas.

The disruptions were reported in multiple service pockets rather than as a single countywide failure. The largest impacts were recorded in Oceanside-area neighborhoods around 6:30 a.m., including San Luis Rey and Ocean Hills. The utility’s estimates at the time indicated at least 3,059 customers without power in those areas, with restoration projected by about 9 a.m.

A separate outage was detected in Vista around 6 a.m., where 1,284 customers were reported without service, with restoration projections extending to roughly 10 a.m. A smaller outage affected 23 customers in Escondido around 4:50 a.m., with an estimated restoration time of about 1 p.m.

What is known about causes and restoration

As of the utility’s initial public updates that morning, the cause of the outages had not been confirmed. The presence of multiple outages in distinct communities can reflect a range of operational scenarios, including localized equipment failures, damage to distribution components, or grid protection systems isolating faults to reduce wider impacts.

Restoration timelines provided during active incidents are estimates and can shift as crews identify the fault location, isolate damaged segments, and re-energize circuits in stages. In multi-outage events, prioritization is typically influenced by factors such as the number of customers affected, critical infrastructure needs, and whether hazards such as downed lines are involved.

Where the outages were reported

  • Oceanside area (including San Luis Rey and Ocean Hills): outages detected around 6:30 a.m.; at least 3,059 customers affected; estimated restoration around 9 a.m.

  • Vista: outage detected around 6 a.m.; 1,284 customers affected; estimated restoration around 10 a.m.

  • Escondido: outage reported around 4:50 a.m.; 23 customers affected; estimated restoration around 1 p.m.

Public guidance during outages

Residents experiencing outages are generally advised to treat any downed wires as energized, avoid flooded areas near electrical equipment, and use flashlights instead of candles indoors. For medically necessary power-dependent equipment, households are encouraged to maintain backup plans and batteries.

The February 11 outages followed a pattern seen in prior North County incidents, where service interruptions may occur across separate circuits and be restored on different schedules. At publication time, no single confirmed cause had been publicly established for the multi-community outages that morning.
