Crash reported on Sixth Avenue near a parking garage entrance

A motorcycle rider was taken to a hospital after a collision with a pickup truck in San Diego’s Hillcrest neighborhood during the morning commute, authorities said.

The crash was reported shortly after 6:30 a.m. at 3800 Sixth Ave., a stretch of roadway lined with residences and businesses and marked by frequent driveways and garage entrances. Police said the collision occurred as the pickup attempted to turn left into a parking garage.

What police say happened

Investigators said a 2018 Ford F-150 driven by a 31-year-old man was traveling northbound on Sixth Avenue as a motorcycle ridden by a 44-year-old man traveled southbound. As the truck driver began a left turn toward the garage entrance, police said he failed to yield to oncoming traffic, and the motorcycle struck the truck.

Paramedics transported the motorcyclist to a hospital with multiple fractures. Police did not release the rider’s identity or provide an update on his condition beyond the reported injuries.

Police described the rider’s injuries as involving multiple fractures and said he was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Investigation and public assistance

The circumstances leading to the failure-to-yield determination were still being examined as part of the collision investigation. Police have not announced citations or arrests connected to the crash, and no additional vehicles were reported as involved.

Authorities asked anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information to contact the San Diego Police Department at 858-495-7800 or provide an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
