Fire contained to a gated area behind the building

A pre-dawn fire at a Mission Valley steakhouse prompted a response from San Diego Fire-Rescue crews on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Firefighters were dispatched at about 4:30 a.m. to Remy, located at 2445 Hotel Circle Place, after reports of flames in the rear of the business.

Upon arrival, crews found the fire confined to a gated area behind the restaurant. The flames scorched portions of the exterior walls, but firefighters stopped the fire before it spread further. No injuries were reported.

Metro Arson Strike Team assigned as cause remains undetermined

Officials said the fire’s cause was not immediately known Tuesday morning. The Metro Arson Strike Team, a specialized investigative unit that handles suspicious-fire and arson cases, was assigned to examine the scene and determine how the fire started.

In cases involving commercial properties, investigators typically evaluate multiple possibilities, including accidental ignition sources near exterior service areas, electrical or equipment-related issues, and human-caused activity. The assignment of a specialized unit does not, by itself, establish that a fire was intentionally set; it signals that investigators will apply additional expertise and resources to reach a cause determination.

Business operations and immediate impacts

The restaurant indicated it would close for the day Tuesday and planned to reopen Wednesday, suggesting damage may have been limited to the exterior and adjacent service areas. Still, even relatively contained fires can trigger follow-up inspections and cleanup requirements before normal operations resume, particularly when heat and smoke affect building surfaces or exterior utilities.

  • Injuries: None reported

Why exterior fires matter in dense commercial corridors

Mission Valley’s Hotel Circle area includes hotels, restaurants, and other businesses with closely spaced structures and shared access roads. Fires that begin outside—especially near service corridors, storage zones, or delivery areas—can present specific risks because flames can extend to exterior cladding, eaves, and utility penetrations, allowing heat to threaten interior spaces if not quickly contained.

Fire officials have not released a cause determination, and the investigation remained active Tuesday.

San Diego Fire-Rescue and investigators are expected to continue documenting the scene and reviewing potential ignition sources as part of the standard post-incident process.
