Broadway San Diego announces 2026-27 season bringing seven current Broadway hits to Civic Theatre stages

A full subscription package drawn entirely from current Broadway runs
Broadway San Diego has unveiled its 49th season, a seven-show subscription lineup that will bring touring productions of titles currently playing on Broadway to the San Diego Civic Theatre. The organization said the 2026–27 package marks the first time in its history that every production in the subscription season is running on Broadway at the time of the announcement.
The season pairs new award-winning work with adaptations of well-known novels and films, while also adding separate special engagements outside the core subscription package.
Season schedule: premieres, award winners, and adaptations
The subscription season is set to begin with the West Coast premiere of Oh, Mary!, scheduled for Sept. 29–Oct. 4, 2026. The 80-minute, one-act play is a dark comedy centered on Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.
Next, The Outsiders is booked for Nov. 3–8, 2026. The musical—adapted from S.E. Hinton’s novel and the film—returns to San Diego after earlier development at La Jolla Playhouse, positioning the tour as a homecoming of a title with local creative history.
- Buena Vista Social Club (April 13–18, 2027)
- Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical (April 20–25, 2027)
- Maybe Happy Ending (June 1–6, 2027)
- The Great Gatsby (June 22–27, 2027)
- Death Becomes Her (Aug. 10–15, 2027)
Several selections arrive with major awards momentum in their marketing, including recent Tony-recognized titles. The list also reflects an ongoing Broadway trend: commercially scaled musicals anchored in familiar intellectual property, including F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and the film-based comedy Death Becomes Her.
Special engagements expand beyond the subscription package
Broadway San Diego also announced additional events at the Civic Theatre that sit outside the seven-show subscription lineup. These include The Phantom of the Opera (Sept. 2–13, 2026), Bluey’s Big Play (Nov. 13–15, 2026), Disney’s The Lion King (Feb. 18–March 7, 2027), and Mamma Mia! (June 15–20, 2027).
What the lineup signals for San Diego audiences
The 2026–27 slate is structured to offer a concentrated pipeline of current Broadway-branded productions, while using add-on engagements to keep long-running franchise titles in rotation.
For local theatergoers, the season combines new works that have built reputations in New York with high-recognition returning titles, all centered at the Civic Theatre. Ticketing, seating, and on-sale timelines vary by production and engagement type, with subscription packaging forming the backbone of access for the seven-show season.
